the mission

Gender-based street harassment, one of the most prevalent and pervasive forms of sexualised violence, constrains the access many girls, women and non-binary people have to public spaces, with a stronger impact on the choices and routines of minorities. A single instance of street harassment, reproduced by men of all ages, may harm a victim physically or emotionally and can contribute to a reduced sense of safety, anxiety, depression, and refusal to engage in civic life. In specific situations, the harassment can escalate into sexual assault, rape and/or life-threatening attacks. The latest study about the prevalence of gender-based violence reveals that 38% of women have been victims of a physical, psychological or sexual act of violence at some point in their life (Lisboa et al, 2009).

With the activities our initiative is proposing, we intend to help make the streets safer, to reinforce solidarity and civil courage, to build community and to empower women and other victims to claim public space. We embody activism focused on society, using the diverse scope of expertise from our group in programmed fronts. The activities we've planned for the year address the repercussions of sexual and street harassment in women and non-binary people’s lives, taking creative action in the form of workshops, publications and cultural events.
